In this work, the theoretical shapes of cavities were investigated as suited for resonant-tunneling diode (RTD) lumped-element oscillators to achieve highest possible operational frequency. The scope work is restricted cylindrical that are in their dimensions much smaller or similar free-space wavelength. idea find a shape has quality factor possible. proposed analysis based on functional variation principles coupled with electric-field integral equation (EFIE) method moments solver. Simple design parameters found covering than maximum reachable frequency was calculated these types new using some RTD parameters. limitation also defined given and fabrication limitations originating from contact resistance radius. order demonstrate significance findings, geometry compared practical resonator shape.
